From the Portland Press Herald, Portland, Maine, October 19, 1995: Althea T. Barnum, 78, died Tuesday at her home here.
She was born in Holyoke, Mass., daughter of George G. and Elvina Hansen Teren, attended Massachusetts schools and graduated from Brown University with a B.A. degree in 1939.
She married Ray Barnum Jr. in 1939 and lived in Old Greenwich, Conn., until 1950. After moving to Hyde Park, N.Y., Mrs. Barnum was active in the Dutchess County Council of Girl Scouts. She also was an active member of Vassar Brothers Hospital Auxiliary of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. She participated in several civic and school committees in Hyde Park.
In 1977, she moved here, and was a member of the First Congregational Church at Camden, where she was a past deacon. She was an active member of the Camden Garden Club and a past member of the Lincolnville Improvement Association.
Her husband died in 1993. Surviving are a son, Ray Barnum III of Hyde Park; a daughter, Karen Simmons of Lincolnville; a brother, George G. Teren Jr. of Venice, Fla.; a grandson and three granddaughters. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in White Plains (N.Y.) Cemetery.
