From the Courier and Freeman, Potsdam, New York, Wednesday, April 29, 1908: The death of a former resident Rev. Charles H. Lester occurred at his home at Syston, England, April 12, 1908. Mr. Lester was born in Potsdam, February 14, 1853, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Lester, well known residents of this place. He was unmarried and is survived by his mother living here and now nearly 90 years of age, and one brother George of Milwaukee. The Leicester (England) Daily Post says of him: Deep regret has been occasioned here by the death of the Rev. C. H. Lester, the respected pastor of the Baptist church. The deceased had a comparatively short illness. Just over a week ago he was seized with cerebral hemorrhage, and died on Sunday afternoon. His ministry here, though short, was attended with much success. He was an eloquent preacher, and a man who, by his work, made innumerable friends in all branches of Christian thought in the community. He came to England about eight years ago. He was pastor at Horddesdon, and was introduced to the Baptist Church here by the Rev. G. Kilby of Friar-lane Baptist Church, Leicester an old friend of the deceased. During the last two months Mr. Lester had been busily engaged in making arrangements for the reopening of the chapel which is being renovated, a work in which he had taken the greatest interest.
