Notes for Betty N. BARNUM


From The Week, Central Vermont, October 22, 2008: Betty Barnum Comstock, 81, of North Barre Manor, died October 7 at the Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin; her family had been at her bedside. Born May 3, 1927, in Monkton, Vermont she was the daughter of Charles D. and Urana Emily (Stilson) Barnum. She was a graduate of Bristol High School and later Burlington Business College. On June 1, 1947, she married Robert C. Comstock in Bristol. Most of their married life had been spent in Barre City and later Barre Town. Bob died Oct. 20, 1986. For 43 years she was bookkeeper and officer manager for the former AL-AN'S Business Machines in Barre. She enjoyed reading, being with her family and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Her memberships included the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Barre Town and she had served as church secretary as well as having been secretary of the North Barre Manor Tenants Council. Survivors include her son, Craig Comstock and wife, Michelle, of Barre City and two daughters; Barbara Couture and husband, Mark, of Barre Town and Charlene Wolf of Plattsburg, N.Y.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; also a sister, Helen Kendall of Granville, N.Y. and nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her brothers Edward and Jack Barnum and sisters Ruth Senna and Jean Kenyon.
