Ira Barnum, son of Caleb Lorenzo Barnum and Sarah Flint, was born in Indiana. He married Alice Spiers on June 26, 1881, in Franklin County, Indiana. In 1900 they were living in Lincoln, Grundy County, Missouri; in 1910 in Mill Creek, Bourbon County, Kansas; in 1920 in Howell, Howell County, Missouri and in 1930, Ira was widowed and living in Union, Cerro Gordo County, Iowa. They had 6 children: Alpharetta, born in Indiana; Maryetta, Ina, Sarah, Harriet and Caleb Leroy “Roy” born in Iowa.
Ira and Alice and three of their daughters are buried in Centerville Cemetery in Devon, Bourbon County, Kansas (findagrave.com): Ira Barnum, 1854-1931; Alice Barnum, 1862-1920; Alpha, 1882-1913; Etta, 1884-1917; and Hattie, 1890-1914.
From the Mason City Globe-Gazette, Mason City, Iowa, March 12, 1931: Clear Lake, March 12 —Mrs. E. T. Cobb received word of the death of her brother, Ira Barnum, who died Wednesday night at the home of his son, Roy Barnum, Ft. Scott, Kansas. Mr. Barnum was quite well known in Clear Lake. He spent much of his time with his daughter, Mrs. Charles Lenz, and with Mrs. Cobb. He was about 76 years old.
Funeral services will be held in Ft. Scott, Kansas. Nine from Clear Lake plan to attend.
