From the Rochester Sentinel, Rochester, Indiana, Wednesday, February 18, 1891: Grandma Long died at her home on south Main Street, Wednesday (February 11) evening, aged 83 years.
Mrs. Long was born in Massachusetts and her maiden name was Tryphena Collins. Deceased was an active member of the Methodist church until becoming so infirm as to be unable to attend worship. The funeral services were conducted Friday by Father Lord and the remains were interred in the Citizens grave yard.
From the Rochester Weekly Republican, February 19, 1891: Grandma Long, the burial of whose remains occurred today, was born at Tyringham, Mass., April 22, 1808. Her maiden name was Tryphena Collins, and was united in marriage with John Barnum in 1834, to whom five children were born, three of whom—Mrs. Capt. Long, Josiah and J. Henry Barnum survive. Having become a widow Mrs. Barnum's second marriage was with Elihu Long, March 8, 1853. The deceased became an active worker in the Methodist church when a girl, and although unable to attend church for several years before her death, she remained steadfast in the faith. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Lord, and many friends accompanied the remains to their resting place.
