Notes for Lucinda MYERS

From the Starke County Republican, Knox, Indiana, Thursday, March 29, 1923: Lucinda Myers, seventh of ten children, daughter of Richard and Susan (Truax) Myers, was born at Bass Lake, Starke County, Indiana, August 1, 1852. She departed this life at the late residence on South Pearl Street, Knox, Indiana, March 20th, 1923, at the age of 70 years, 7 months and 19 days.
She was united in marriage with Josiah Bolivar Barnum on December 29th, 1869, and to this union seven children were born. The husband and three of these, Tryphena Elizabeth, Phineas Taylor and Mary Alma, preceded her to the Great Beyond. She grew to womanhood in Starke County and spent practically her entire lifetime in this community. She was a devoted mother and a good neighbor and friend. Early in life she gave her heart to God and for many years was an active worker in church affairs. During the last fifteen years of her life she was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was a charter member of the local chapter of the Woman's Relief Corps and was an active worker in that organization until the local organization gave up its charter, some years ago. Material things were not of greatest importance to her and she rejoiced in having about her, the family circle of children, grandchildren, and brothers and sisters. She was always kind and ever thoughtful of others, always placing herself in the background. She was loved and respected by all who knew her and her friends were many. She is survived by three sons, John Henry, Horace Elihu and George Homer, of Knox, and one daughter, Mrs. Alta Dunsing, of Fort Wayne; also two brothers, Robert Myers, of Plato Center, Illinois, and John C. Myers, of Ober; and one sister, Mrs. Priscilla Rough, of South Bend, who together with a host of other relatives and friends mourn her passing. The funeral was conducted from the Free Methodist Church, Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock in charge of Rev. J. A. J. Tannehill. Interment was made in the Crown Hill Cemetery.
