From the Brewster Standard, Friday, December 13, 1935: James Hynes, 20, of Grassy Plain Street was almost instantly killed and Miss Marjorie Barnum, 21, of 28 West Street, Danbury, was fatally injured Saturday (December 7) morning in an automobile accident which occurred on the dangerous curve at the top of Lake Avenue, the scene of many other accidents. Young Hynes and Miss Barnum were still alive, but unconscious when pulled from the wrecked car by persons residing in the neighborhood. Both were placed in the city ambulance and rushed to the hospital by Patrolman F. J. Mania but upon the arrival of the ambulance at the hospital it was found that Hynes was dead. Miss Barnum died about 2:45 o'clock without regaining consciousness. Both victims of the fatal accident died as the result of severe head injuries. Miss Barnum was born in Brewster, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Barnum. She moved to Danbury with her parents when a young girl and attended the local public and high school. She was graduated from Danbury High School in the class of 1933. She was a member of St. James' Episcopal Church. She is survived by her parents and by one sister, Mrs. James J. Muckenhoupt, of Leewood, N. J. The funeral was held at St. James' Episcopal Church Monday afternoon.
