From the front page of the Midland Daily News, Midland, MI, 12 Jul 1972: Wrecks Claim Four Lives. Midland and Clare County traffic wrecks Tuesday afternoon and early today claimed the lives of three Midland area residents and a Baldwin woman. State Police of Mount Pleasant Post, who investigated the triple fatality in Clare County, said Mrs. Lund was driving alone in her car headed east and [Albert] Meyer was westbound on US 10. For some unknown reason, Meyer crossed the center line and collided head on with the Lund auto, troopers said. Mrs. Lund and Meyer were pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. Julian Gershon, Clare medical examiner. Mrs. Meyer died about 4:54 p.m. at the Clare General Hospital.
An Essexville resident for many years, Mr. Meyer was a retired employee of Acme Portland Cement, a division of Martin-Marietta in Essexville. He was born Jan 11, 1892 at Congerville, Ill, and he and his wife moved to Midland recently. A World War I veteran, Mr. Meyer was a member of Barracks 74 in Bay City and his wife was a member of its auxiliary. Both were also members of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Essexville. The couple was married May 3, 1920. They are survived by two daughters, Mrs. William (Norma) Finks of Flint and Mrs. Gary (Katherine) Kramer of Anaheim, Calif; three sons, Eldon M. Meyer of Lemon Grove, Calif., Wayne A. Meyer of Bay City, and Hial O. Meyer of Midland, 18 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. In addition, Mr. Meyer is survived by one brother and five sisters while Mrs. Meyer is also survived by one brother and three sisters. Double funeral services will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Friday from the Penzxien Funeral Home, 508 Madison, Bay City. Dr. Herbert Brubaker will officiate and burial will be in Floral Gardens Cemetery, Bay City. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today.
