From the Utica Dispatch Observer, Utica, NY, Saturday, November 21, 1931: Eugene E. Barnum, 81, died at his home 100 Genesee Street, New Hartford at 9 a.m. this morning after an illness of ten days. He was born in Lowville. May 27, 1850, and formerly made his home in Boonville. He was also a former resident of Utica.
Mr. Barnum engaged in the lumber business in the North Woods and later engaged in the produce business at Albany. He traveled as a salesman for Van Camp & Company of Indianapolis, Indiana from which he retired in 1922. He was a member of the Central M. E. Church, Utica.
Mr. Barnum was married in 1874 to Miss Mary Tasket who died a number of years ago. He was married again in 1882 to Jennie McCann of Boonville who died in 1920.
Surviving are one son, Frank T. Barnum, and two grandchildren, Thad and June Barnum of New Hartford and a daughter by his first marriage, Mrs. Jessie McLane Laidlaw of Carthage; also four grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
