From the Hawarden Independent, Iowa, Thursday, June 7, 1956: Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Monday (May 31) afternoon at the Barnard Funeral home for Frank Hout, Sr., 78, longtime resident here who suffered, a heart attack and died Thursday afternoon while working in a garden. Rev. Paul Williams officiated at the services and burial was at Grace Hill Cemetery. Mr. Hout's wife, Ethel, and a granddaughter, Patty Collins, were with him at the time he was stricken. He was born December 25, 1877, at Waynesburg, Pa. His parents were early day hotel operators here. He took a great deal of interest in gardening and fishing, and in his early life became a hunter and trapper along the Big Sioux River. On September 20, 1905, he married Ethel Barnum. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last year. A daughter, Mrs. Alberta Waterman and a son, Leslie, preceded him in death. Survivors besides the widow are four daughters, Mrs. Mildred Kelhower and Mrs. Cora Collins of Hawarden, Mrs. Ella Boyer of Hudson and Mrs. Evelyn Maki of Minneapolis; three sons, Clyde of Pitkin, La., Harold of Hawarden and Frank Jr., of Sioux City; a brother, Glenn of Long Beach, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Stella Cooper of Hawarden, and several grandchildren.
