From an unidentified contemporary newspaper: Ottawa -- Myrtle O. Reams, 93, Ottawa, died Sunday, July 16, 2000, at an Ottawa care center.
She was born June 14, 1907, in Niles in Ottawa County, to Charles Joshua and Ota Mae Stevens Barnum. She moved with her parents to the Rosemont community southeast of Melvern at an early age. She spent many years in the Rosemont community in Osage County. She worked at Bruce and Thomas Manufacturing, Loux Hatchery, Bob's Truck Stop, Ransom Memorial Hospital and Cedar House care home in Ottawa.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Ottawa and had been a member of the former Rosemont Methodist Church since 1921. She was a member of an Extension Homemakers Unit and was a 4-H Club volunteer.
She married W. Russell Reams on May 12, 1929, in the Rosemont community. They moved into Ottawa in 1974. He died May 5, 1995. Daughters Donna Reams and Delma Kern also died. Grandchildren Roy Teegarden, Timmy Kern, Alan Kern and Karen Kern also died.
Survivors include two sons, Bill Reams, The Colony, Texas, and Terry Reams, Burlington; four daughters, Norma Jean Esmay, Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Betty Teegarden, Polo, Mo., Judy Patterson, Copan, Okla., and Linda Sullivan, Topeka; 15 grandchildren; 24 great- grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home in Ottawa. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Ottawa. Mrs. Reams will lie in state after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home where relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
