From an unidentified contemporary newspaper: April 27, 1950, Atchinson, Kansas. Mother and Son die in Crossing Crash. Pomona, Kansas. Fred Otto Barnum, 36, and his mother, Mrs. Charles Barnum, 65, were killed yesterday when their automobile and a Santa Fe passenger train collided at a crossing near here. Policemen state that the automobile was knocked 148 ft. by the impact. The victims were returning home after visiting with Mrs. Barnum's daughter, Mrs. Russell Reams of near Ottawa.
