Notes for Helen Marian BARNUM


From the Addison County Independent, Vermont, February 19, 2009: Granville, NY-Helen Marian (Barnum) Kendall, 96, a native of Monkton, Vermont died January 31, 2009 at Orchard Nursing Center in Granville, New York. She was born June 20, 1912 in Monkton, the daughter of Urana and Harry Barnum. In 1931, she was married to Frederick Smith who died in 1936. In 1937, she married Vernon Kendall. For many years she was the baker at Coles Restaurant and later at the Sugar House Restaurant in New Haven.
Family says she loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed getting together with them and talking with them whenever she could. She enjoyed making jewelry and working with shells at Orchard Nursing Home, where she lived.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary L. Baker and husband Douglas of Granville; three sons, Frederick B. Smith and wife Elizabeth of Westford, James A. Kendall and wife Donna of New Haven, and Roger V. Kendall and wife Emily of Westford; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; many nieces and nephews; and a close friend, Gerry Moore, at Orchard Nursing Home. She was predeceased by her first husband in 1936; her second husband in 1995; a daughter, Barbara Ann Smith, in 1946; and a grandchild in 1966. A committal service will be held in May at the Greenwood Cemetery in Bristol, where she will be buried next to her late husband Vernon.
