From The Journal & Republican, Lowville, N.Y., February 1923 (exact date unclear): Elizabeth Beyer Riffanacht, wife of Joseph Riffanacht, dropped dead at her home while preparing breakfast last Thursday (February 1) morning. She had been in her usual good health and her death was a severe shock to her relatives and friends. She was a daughter of the late Philip and Louise (Scherer) Beyer and was born in the town of New Bremen, New York July 17, 1857. She was twice married. Her first husband was Alden Barnum, who died several years ago. On March 16, 1900, she was married to Joseph Riffanacht and has since lived in this village. Besides her husband there survives one son, C. Ray Barnum; one daughter, Dorothy Riffanacht, and seven step-children; one sister, Mrs. Peter Virkler; three brothers, Peter Beyer of Naumburg; Charles of Carthage, and William of Castorland. The funeral was held from the home, Sunday at 1 o'clock with Rev. A. J. Rohr of the Evangelical Baptist church officiating. Interment was made in the Otis Cemetery near Denmark.
