From The Journal & Republican, Lowville, N.Y., Thursday, January 30, 1930: Joseph Riffanacht, 80, died at 9:30 Friday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Truman Tyner, of this village. He had been in his usual health until Thursday when stricken with a heart attack. Mr. Riffanacht was born at Beech Hill and was married twice, his first wife, Jane Glenn, having died years ago. His second wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Beyer Barnum, died eight years ago. Since that time Mr. Riffanacht has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Tyner and family. Surviving are eight sons and daughters: Mrs. Truman Tyner this village, Mrs. Fred Linstruth, Oneida, John Riffanacht, Watertown, William Riffanacht, Herkimer, Mrs. Arthur Cummings, Lowville, Mrs. Earl Tompson, Detroit, Mrs. George Hutchinson, Ogdensburg, Mrs. Harry Bingle, Carthage, one step-son, Ray Barnum, Rochester, one brother, Benjamin Riffanacht, Lowville; one sister, Mrs. Kate Bach, Carthage and twenty-four grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. from the Croghan Evangelical church at Croghan. Interment was at Croghan.
