From the Akron Beacon Journal, Ohio, April 1, 1997: John M. Barnum, 77, of Chippewa Lake, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 30, 1997, following a sudden illness, at his home. He was born in Lafayette, Ohio, on Sept. 23, 1919, to Nelson and Marie Johnson Barnum, and was a lifelong resident of Medina County.
Mr. Barnum was a 1938 graduate of Medina High School and was a former employee of Henry Furnace, presently Borg Warner, in Medina for 47 years. He was a member of the Church-at-the-Lake Methodist Church in Chippewa Lake and was a World War II Navy veteran, serving aboard the U.S.S. Midway.
Surviving are daughters, Shirley Schunn of Lodi, Ohio, and Mrs. Jim (Joyce) Tilley of Alabama; sons, John N. of Brunswick, Ohio, Richard (Rose) of Lodi, Ohio, and Bob (Enid) of North Carolina; 13 grandchildren, 17 great- grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Bob (Helen) Mattingly of Chatham, Ohio; and brother, Carl of Lodi, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Gladys in 1982.
Funeral services will be Thursday, April 3, 1997, at 10:30 a.m., at the Church-at-the-Lake, 7824 Lake Rd., Chippewa Lake, Ohio, Rev. Mitchell Ladich officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lodi, Ohio.
