From the Daily Press, Newport News, Virginia, April 17, 2000: LeRoy H. Barnum, 73, died on Saturday, April 15, 2000. A native of Bridgeport, Conn., he had been a Peninsula resident for 11 years, having moved here with his family from Ridgefield, Conn. A Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Barnum retired from American Cyanamid in 1986, after 30 years of service. He was a Sunday school teacher and active member of Hampton Baptist Church. He was a volunteer with the Peninsula Food Bank. In Ridgefield, Conn., he was a member of the Rotary Club; and was a Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 47. He is survived by his wife, Pauline Miller Barnum; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Richard Sayre of Poquoson; and a son, Donald Paul Barnum of Ridgefield, Conn.; one brother and his wife, Ronald E. and June Morris Barnum of Trumbull, Conn.; and two grandsons, Christopher and David Barnum. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19, at Lawrence B. Wood Funeral Home by the Rev. Jay Russ and the Rev. Chester L. Brown. The family will receive friends following the service.
