A One-Name Study for the BARNUM/BARNHAM Surname
From the Valley Independent, August 4, 1988: Mary B. Balmer of Charleroi died Wednesday, August 3, 1988, In Mon Valley Hospital. She was 91. Mrs. Balmer was born Jan. 9, 1897, In Allenport, Pennsylvania a daughter of the late Alvin and Sophia Jones Barnum. The last member of her immediate family, Mrs. Balmer was a retired school teacher. She had taught in the Charleroi School District for many years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Charleroi. She was also a member of the Athene Club of Charleroi and Order of Eastern Star Chapter 196, Belle Vernon. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, E. Vernon Balmer and by a brother David R. Barnum. Survivors include two stepdaughters, Mrs. Harold (Betty) Baker of Fallowfield Township and Mrs. Karl (Gladys) Scherapp of Donora; and a sister-in-law, Marjorie Barnum of Allenport.
