From an unnamed contemporary newspaper: Norman Barnum, age 82 of Rock Falls, died Monday, April 20, 2015 at his home after a long illness. Norman was born on March 11, 1933 in Indiana; the son of Lester and Bertha (Baither) Barnum. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1956. Norman married Karen Moore on May 5, 1962 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Rock Falls. He was employed by Northwestern Steel and Wire for 30 years as a machinist and blacksmith before retiring in March of 1993. Norman was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was extremely handy, an avid fisherman and enjoyed antiquing, line dancing and traveling in his motor home. Karen and Norman loved spending winters in Florida. Norman was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Karen; one daughter, Sabrina (Kevin) Murphy of Rock Falls; one son, Scott (Rosanne) Barnum of Chicago; four grandchildren, Jessica (Brandan) Koehn, Matthew (Christine) Murphy, Connor Murphy and Francesca Barnum; four great grandchildren, Paige, Landon, Kiersten and Alexander. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard Barnum. Burial with full Military Honors will follow at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling.
