From the North Platte Telegraph, January 15, 2008: Goldie Dean Freeman, 71, of North Platte lost her courageous battle with cancer Jan. 14, 2008, with her family by her side at her home.
Goldie was born Jan. 31, 1936, to Gerald Aubrey Sr. and Bertha Sofia Favinger Barnum at Stapleton. She grew up in Stapleton and graduated from Stapleton High School in 1953.
On July 25, 1953, Goldie married Milo Neal Freeman in Stapleton. They lived in Stapleton before moving to North Platte in 1960. She worked at Linden Manor before going to work with Milo in the well business. They owned Freeman Pump and Well where she was the secretary. She always had time to raise her children and was their mother and their friend. Goldie was a friend to all the neighbor children, too. She liked playing cards with her family and her friends.
Goldie always could make room for one more family member or a friend.
Goldie is survived by her husband, Milo; her daughter, Doris (Andy) Young; her three sons Stanley (Charlene) Freeman, Gerald (Becky) Freeman, and Leon (Carla) Freeman, all of North Platte; 11 grandchildren, Robert (Teresa) Freeman, Deanna (Jeremy) Storm, Mandy (Matt) Baker, Amy (Cash) Cauffman, Michael Freeman, Tara (Chris) O'Dell, Amber (Rory) Berliner, Dustin Freeman, Shawna Young and her friend, Brett Bowman, Michelle Young and Bo Young; three step-grandchildren, Jeremy (Angie) Sanford, Stacy (Jed) Baxter and Robby Terry; 15 great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Louise James of Nampa, Idaho, Evelyn Schutt of Stapleton and Elda Weller of Scottsbluff; three brothers, Ralph (Katherine) Barnum of Nampa, Ora (Sara) Barnum, and Junior (Donna) Barnum, all of Stapleton; a very special cousin, Lyle (Violet) Towne; and many nieces, nephews and other family.
Her parents preceded her in death.
A memorial has been established for the Great Plains Hospice.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at the First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Jack Atteberry officiating. Burial will be in the McCain Cemetery east of Stapleton.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Wednesday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore and before the service Thursday at the church.
