Notes for Roland Murry BARNUM


From The Star Beacon, Ashtabula, Ohio, Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008: Ashtabula — Roland M. Barnum, age 85, of Ashtabula, passed away Wednesday morning, Nov. 12th, 2008, at his residence. Born Nov. 25, 1922, in Ashtabula County, he was the son of Murry and Clara Belle (Dougan) Barnum. Roland married Mary (Mosher) on July 15, 1950.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of W.W.II. Roland had worked as a construction operating engineer working out of Cleveland Local # 18, recently receiving a 50 year pin and watch, and also had worked for Lakeshore Steel and Ashtabula Erectors. He was a lifetime member of VFW 3943, loved flying, playing cards, and enjoyed his work, constructing buildings in Ashtabula County.
He is survived by his wife Mary; sons, Allen (Sharon) Barnum and David (Sherry) Barnum, both of North Kingsville, Henry Barnum of Ashtabula, and Kyle (Elaine) Barnum of Monroe Township; daughters, Valerie (Mike) Sjostrom of Ashtabula and Constance Billingsley of Illinois; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Roland was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Elba “Red” Barnum; and sister, Marcia.
Funeral services are 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 15th, at Potti Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1329 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, with his son, David Barnum officiating. A Military service will be observed.
