James Garner Barnum, U.S. Veteran, of Searcy, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2013, at the White County Medical Center in Searcy. Born in Edgemont on November 18, 1935, he was the son of the late James Clarence and Gail (Stark) Barnum.
Mr. Barnum was a retired forester for the Arkansas Forestry Commission and had served in the National Guard. His religious belief was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Barnum was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence L. Barnum.
He is survived by one brother, Farris Barnum of Searcy; two nephews, John Barnum and his wife, Shirley, of Searcy and Jim Barnum of Tumbling Shoals; and one sister-in-law, Bobbie Barnum of Searcy. Mr. Barnum is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
Visitation will be held Thursday, February 14, at 10:00 a.m. with funeral services beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the Olmstead Chapel with Rev. Reagan Shearer officiating. Interment will follow in Shiloh Cross Roads Cemetery. David Barnum, Cody Higgs, Josh Altom, Lowell Altom, Leroy Osborn, and Paul Moss will serve as pallbearers.
