From the Midland Daily News, Midland, Michigan, August 21, 2008: Thompson Robert Barnum, 83, of Midland, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008. Thompson was born in Prescott on March 31, 1925, to the late Barna and Martha (VanMeter) Barnum. Thompson was a member of the Evangelical Free Church where he had lots of friends. He was fiercely loyal, well connected and known throughout the Midland community. He was often seen, wearing shorts, pushing his lawn mower through the city looking for odd jobs. He loved water color painting, making birdhouses, bowling and the Special Olympics. Thompson was a very hard worker and a well known handyman. Thompson greatly appreciated the people at Seasons Adult Daycare, Personal Assistance Options, Community Mental Health, ARC and Jan his guardian. Thompson is survived by his sisters, Mildred (Albert) Card of Midland, Stella Card of Hope, and Mona Wenzel of Florida; brothers, Robert (Millie) Barnum and John (Carolyn) Barnum; and many nieces, nephews and lots of friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Harold, and sister-in-law, Edith. A memorial service for Thompson will be held at the Evangelical Free Church on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008 at 1 pm.
