Notes for Clair Eugene BARNUM


From the Jackson Citizen Patriot, Michigan, September 3, 2009: Clair Eugene Barnum went to be with Lord on Monday, August 31, 2009, at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, after a brief illness, he was 79. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carolyn; two daughters, Laura and Nancy Barnum; two brothers, Bob Barnum and Don (Sandra) Barnum; two sisters, Lois (Carl) Warner and Shirley (Dick) Johnson; brother-in-law, Mel Robertson; also several beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Robertson and baby Eloris; as well as his parents. After serving in the United States Air Force and attending Northern Illinois University, Clair joined the faculty of Jackson Junior College where he served as a member of the steering committee to establish the current campus. While serving as Department Chair, Clair was instrumental in establishing the Manufacturing Program by making substantial contributions through planning the new facility and implementing the new programs. He is remembered by former students as a caring patient teacher, willing to go the extra mile. Family and friends considered him to be a quiet loving force, with a gentle sense of humor. His personal interests and hobbies included woodworking, photography, outdoor gardening, and traveling with his wife. Clair was always guided by his personal faith in Christ and was an active member of his church. A private committal service will take place in Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
