Notes for Julian Dwaine THWING


From The Tribune, San Luis Obispo, California, December 29, 2009: Julian Dwaine Thwing passed away Monday, Dec. 21, 2009. He was born in Bijou Hills, S.D., In October 1922 to Julian B. and Elsie L. (Graves) Thwing.
Dwaine served in the U.S. Army Air Corp as a fighter pilot (P47 Thunderbolt) in Europe during World War II. Upon returning from the War, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Helen J. Barnum, on September 2, 1945.
They moved to Santa Barbara in 1947 where they raised their family. He worked in accounting and was active in Kiwanis and the Methodist Church. In 1988, they moved to Paso Robles to spend their retirement years. They enjoyed friends, family, traveled in their motor home, and worked on their five acres. Just recently they returned to Santa Barbara.
Julian's survivors include a daughter, Nancy (Ed) Giorgi of Hemingford, Neb.; two sons Randy (Lisa) Thwing of Santa Barbara, Gary (Pat) Thwing of Watsonville, Calif.; seven grandchildren Kelly (Ethan) Rumrill of Fairfax, Va., Kerry Thwing of Watsonville, Starr Giorgi of Chadron, Neb., Shaina (Kenny) Tucker of Tucson, Ariz., Sara Thwing, Annie Thwing and Drew Thwing all of Santa Barbara; and great-granddaughter, Ruby Rumrill of Fairfax. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Helen, in August of 2009.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at the Santa Barbara Cemetery.
