From the Sigourney News-Review: G. Barnum, 90, of Keota, died Sat., Jan. 22, 2005, at the McCreedy Home in Washington.
She was born April 28, 1914, in Clayton County near St. Olaf the daughter of Andrew O. and Nellie Nelson Wold. She grew up in St. Olaf and graduated from Elkader High School. She taught lower elementary school in St. Olaf for six years. On Aug. 10, 1939, she married Verdine H. Barnum in St. Olaf. Following marriage the couple lived in Pomeroy until 1944, when they moved to Kalona. They settled in Keota in 1954. She was a member of the United Church of Faith, Chapter CM PEO, Fortnightly Club and Women United and enjoyed sewing, quilting, and playing bridge.
She is survived by two children; Sandra Lawrence of Solon and Dean Barnum of Mishawaka, Ind.; two granddaughters, Nicole and Danielle; and a brother, Burdette Wold of Monona.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Funeral services were held Wed., Jan. 26 at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota with Pastor Sallie Graves officiating. Burial was in the Keota Cemetery.
A general memorial fund has been established.
