From the Genealogy of the Cowles families in America (Vol. I, Family of John Cowles of Farmington and Hartford, Conn., and Hatfield, Mass.): 1453b. Darius North Cowles, b. in Canaan, Conn.; m. in North Canaan Church, March 7, 1822, Narcissa Lane, who was, on her mother's side, a granddaughter of Thomas Crittenden, the first governor of Vermont. In 1836 Orange Culver took the place of Darius N. Cowles as commissioner of highways in Farmington, Oakland Co., Mich. (see Vol. 18, Mich. Pioneer Collections). They had two sons and five daughters, all of whom, except Lucy A., died before 1896, leaving no children [sic].
