This may be the person who was enumerated in the 1880 US Census for Conesus, Livingston County, New York as Cordy Gilmore, a grandson of Darius Barnum (1829-1884). The census entry shows him as as:

If the supposition is correct, Cordy/Cordie would have been a son of one of the four daughters of Darius Barnum. Their ages at the time of Cordie's birth would have been: Mariett/Maryett, 23; Ida B., 18; Amanda, 15; Dorca/Dorsey, 13. If that were the case, Cordie might have been adopted or raised by his grandfather, using the surname Barnum in later life. To date, information to definitely confirm or discard that supposition has not been found.

By 1905 Cordie was widowed and during at least part of that year he was living apart from his son Avery. The 1905 state census for Buffalo, Erie County, New York, shows him as a boarder in that city, as follows:

NOTE: Four additional male lodgers were enumerated in the same family group. Cordie's wife Margaret had died in 1901 and his son Avery Barnum was enumerated in that same census living in the home of Avery's uncle Archibald Avery in Wayland Village, Wayland Township, Steuben County, New York.
