Notes for Josephine PADILLA


From the Rock Springs Daily Rocket-Miner, Nov 13, 1999: Funeral services for Josephine “Josie” Barnum were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 150 Mesa Drive, Rock Springs. Brother Arron Rissel conducted the services. Interment was in the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Mrs. Barnum, 84, of 1027 North Front St., Rock Springs, died at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at the Sage View Care Center, 1325 Sage St., Rock Springs, where she had been a resident for the past few months.
She had been a resident of Rock Springs since 1953 and was a former resident of Raton, N.M.
Mrs. Barnum was born Sept. 23, 1915, in San Jose, N.M., the daughter of the late Manuel Padilla and Pabla Lucero. She attended schools in Sugarite, N.M.
She married Charles Bell Barnum Jr. in Sugarite on Aug. 10, 1932, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 1974.
Mrs. Barnum was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Her pursuits included crocheting and cooking.
Survivors include two sons, Sam Barnum of Rock Springs and Bob Barnum and wife Lynette of Fort Bridger; two daughters, Bessie Rhodes and husband Earl of Tallahassee, Fla., and Eunice Atchison of Albuquerque, N.M.; one son-in-law, Secundino Sandoval of Raton; 25 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Evelyn Sandoval; one son, John and wife Marla; and three brothers, Joe Padilla, Ben Padilla and John Padilla.
