Notes for Gordon H. P. GOULD


From the Rome Sentinel, Rome, NY, Monday, August 26, 1946: Lyons Falls, NY—Gordon H. P. Gould, 44, died suddenly at 5 p. m. Sunday at his home here. Death was attributed to acute dilation of the heart. He was born here June 23, 1902, a son of Mrs. May Richardson Gould and the late Harry P. Gould. He was graduated from Philips Exeter Academy and Hamilton College and was a member of Alpha Delta Phi fraternity. For several years Mr. Gould was associated with the Gould Paper Co. as supervisor of extensive lumbering operations in the Adirondacks and in the Tug Hill section.
After the death of his father, Nov. 4, 1938, he became president and general manager of Gould Paper Co., continuing until the company was sold in September 1945, to the Continental Can Co. On August 4, 1923, he married Miss Helen Bowman, Lowville who died in 1932. Two daughters of this marriage live in this village, Miss Jane Gould and Miss Mary Lua Gould. On Feb. 17, 1934, he married Miss Bernice Barnum of Lyons Falls. Of this marriage a daughter and two sons, Nancy Mae Gould, Harry Peter Gould and Gene Barnum Gould, reside in Utica. This marriage ended in divorce, and on July 2, 1941, Mr. Gould married Miss Nancy Farney of Lyons Falls.
