Notes for Alton PEARCE


From the Daily Inter Lake, Kalispell, Montana, February 26, 1961: Mrs. Alton Pearce received word Saturday of the death of her parents, the Rev. and Mrs. G. William Barnum, and her sister, Miss Mary Barnum, following the head on collision of their car with a heavy truck in Fayetteville, Ark. The Rev. and Mrs. Barnum were killed instantly and their daughter died later in a hospital. The accident happened when the car the Rev. Barnum was driving collided with a 2 ½ ton truck driven by Marvin W. Wells of Belleville, Ark. The accident happened about 13 miles south of Fayetteville.
The Rev. and Mrs. Barnum are former Kalispell residents. The Rev. Barnum was minister at First Presbyterian Church in Kalispell in 1930 to 1932. He had served in Presbyterian pastorates in Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota and Arkansas. He retired several years ago. The Rev. and Mrs. Barnum are survived by seven children, Mrs. Alton (Jean) Pearce of Kalispell; the Rev. John C. Barnum of Potomac; Mrs. J. Wilbur (Ruth) Dahl (sic, s/b Wahl) of New Providence, N. J.; Mrs. W. Dean (Grace) Davidson of Meridian, Idaho; William Barnum of Spokane; Mrs. Ellis (Julia) Roberts of Washington, D. C.; and Mrs. J. Laing (Dorothy) Burns of Madison, Wis. The funeral has been set tentatively for Wednesday from the Moore Chapel in Fayetteville. Mrs. Pearce plans to attend the funeral.
