From the Syracuse Journal, Syracuse, New York, Monday, March 8, 1926: Stricken ill five days ago with pneumonia, Mrs. Harriet Dey Barnum, wife of Dwight S. Barnum, died at 1:32 a. m., Monday, at their home at 340 Jasper St. All members of her immediate family were at her bedside when death came. She was 32 years old. Her resistance weakened by the strain of caring for her daughter, Polly, 4, who became ill with whooping cough, Mrs. Barnum fell ill with bronchial pneumonia. Polly's condition also grew worse and she was stricken with pneumonia at about the same time as her mother. She was taken to the home of her grandfather, Judge William L. Barnum. Mrs. Barnum was the only daughter of Donald Dey, while her husband is the son of Judge Barnum. She was born in Syracuse, October 30, 1894. Mrs. Barnum was a popular member of the Junior League. She was always one of its most active members and was associated with many other charitable and social organizations. She was a graduate of Smith College and of the Goodyear-Burlingame School. She was a member of Park Presbyterian Church. Dey Brothers & Company's department store was closed Monday on account of Mrs. Barnum's death. Surviving besides her husband and daughter are her father and mother, a brother, Donald M. Dey. Mrs. Barnum's mother has been recovering from a fractured leg at her home and was unable to be with her daughter until the last Mr. Dey had been in the South but was notified of his daughter's condition Saturday night. Funeral services for Mrs. Barnum will be conducted, from the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald S. Dey, of 201 Dewitt St., Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.
