Notes for Polly BARNUM


From The Syracuse Journal, Syracuse, New York, Thursday, April 26, 1928: Dr. Walter Rockwood Ferris, pastor of Park Central Presbyterian Church, will officiate at private funeral services of Miss Polly Barnum, a daughter of Dwight S. Barnum and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Dey and County Judge and Mrs. William L. Barnum, which will be conducted Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the home of her father, 340 Jasper St. Burial will be in the family plot in Oakwood Cemetery. She died Wednesday at 3:15 p.m. of a heart ailment. She was stricken ill Tuesday night. The child had been in unusually good health and her sudden illness came as a shock to the family.
On March 7, 1926, Mrs. Harriet Dey Barnum, the child's mother and only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Dey, died after a five days' illness with pneumonia, resulting from a bronchial condition, contracted while she was caring for Polly Barnum, then ill with whooping cough. The mother's resistance was weakened in caring for her daughter.
For several weeks after her mother's death, the child's life hung in the balance with the same disease, but she recovered and had grown strong and healthy. There had been no previous indications of the illness which set In Tuesday. Her father and her grandparents are the only survivors.
She was born June 10, 1922, at her parents’ home in Jasper St. She was a member of the children's classes of Park Central Presbyterian Church.
