From the Lima News, Tuesday, December 8, 1953: Delphos—E. L. (Everett Lee) McElderry, 71, an embalmer for the Chiles & Son Funeral Home in Lima for 15 years, died in his home here at 5:45 a.m. today after suffering a heart attack. He had been in failing health for 11 years. Mr. McElderry was graduated in 1903 from the Ohio Embalmers College, Columbus, and was the oldest licensed embalmer in Van Wert County. He was employed by Chiles & Son until going with Harter & Son Funeral Home in Delphos in 1942, remaining there until his retirement in 1946.
Born in Columbus Grove on November 26, 1882, Mr. McElderry was married January 26, 1904, to Della Keel who survives. He was a member of the Delphos Methodist Church. Surviving in addition to the widow are three sons: Marvin, Wapakoneta; Edwin, Lima and Robert, Lima; a daughter, Mrs. Harriet Louise Ewing, Lima; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: a sister, Mrs. Jennie Jones, Columbus Grove; and two brothers Virgil of Sidney, and Len of Columbus Grove. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.
