Robert Crichton, 8th Lord Crichton of Sanquhar, was born c. 1568, mar. 10 Apr 1608 Mary Fermor (bapt. 12 Mar 1591/2; mar. (2) 17 Jul 1615 Barnabas O'Brien, 5th Earl of Thomond; bur. 13 Apr 1675 at Great Billing, County Northampton), yst. dau. of Sir George Fermor, of Easton Neston, co. Northampton, by his wife Mary Curzon, dau. of Thomas Curzon, of Addington, co. Buckingham. Robert died s.p. legit. 29 Jun 1612 and was suc. by a cousin. Note: he lost an eye in a fencing accident in 1604; seven years later he was instrumental in having the former fencing master, John Turner, murdered in revenge for the accident; he was found guilty of murder and was hanged with a silken rope in Great Palace Yard, Westminster.
