Notes for Ellen P. WRIGHT

From the Middlebury Register, Middlebury, Vermont, September 23, 1910: The following is taken from the Freeport, Illinois Daily Bulletin of Friday, September 16: Mrs. Ellen Barnum, wife of Mr. H. M. Barnum,a respected resident of the city died yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Barnum home, 355 Stephenson Street. Death came as a relief after acute suffering of more than a year's duration. The last six months Mrs. Barnum was quite feeble, heart trouble causing a complete breakdown in health. She was a patient sufferer and a lady of unusual personal qualities. Mrs. Barnum was born in Shoreham, Vermont, October 7, 1833. Her maiden name was Ellen Wright. She was married on August 8, 1864, and came west to join her husband in the summer of 1864, Mr. Barnum coming to Freeport in the fall of 1859. During recent years Mr. Barnum has retired from active practice and with his wife spent the winters in the south in the hopes that his wife's slowly ebbing strength might be maintained. Mrs. Barnum is survived by her husband and one sister, Mrs. A. Wells of Waupun, Wisconsin. A funeral service, which was private, was conducted at the house at 4 p.m. today by Rev. H. M. Markley. A beautiful tribute to the deceased was paid by Mr. Markley. Tomorrow the body will be taken to Shoreham, where interment will be made. Mrs. Barnum was a daughter of the late Judge M.W. C. Wright, a former resident of Shoreham and well known throughout Addison County. The remains were brought here from Freeport, Illinois Sunday and the funeral was held Tuesday afternoon in the Congregational church in Shoreham.
