From the North Platte Telegraph, December 4, 2011: B. Evelyn Schutt, 68, of Stapleton, died Dec. 3, 2011, at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow. She was born on Dec. 19, 1942, in Stapleton to Gerald and Bertha (Favinger) Barnum. Evelyn graduated from Stapleton High School in 1960. She then moved to Los Angeles, Calif, where she married Boone Keerikoolparn. To this union, a son Randy was born. Evelyn came back to Broken Bow and married August Schutt in 1970. To this union a daughter Tina was born. In 1974 the couple moved to Wheatland, Wyo., where she was a manager at Jack and Jill Grocery Store. Her husband August died on April 13, 1981, and then her son died on Nov. 27, 1981. Evelyn moved to Stapleton in 1988. In Stapleton, she owned and operated the Shady Lady Restaurant for many years. Evelyn enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Survivors include her daughter, Tina (Larry) Vencill, of North Platte; two granddaughters, Krystien Schutt and Desiree Vencill, of North Platte; a step-granddaughter, Cassandra Vencill, of North Platte; five siblings, Ralph (Catherine) Barnum and Louise James, of Idaho, Ora (Sara) Barnum and Gerald (Donna) Barnum, of Stapleton, and Isabella Weller, of Scottsbluff; and a mother-in-law, Norma Taylor, of Kearney. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son; and sister, Goldie Freeman. Memorial services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the Adams & Swanson Chapel with the Rev. Bob Anderson officiating. Cremation was chosen and inurnment will be at a later date. Register book signing will be Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
