From an unnamed contemporary newspaper: Ticonderoga — Marvin H. Porter, 87, of Grace Avenue, passed away Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at his home.
He was born in Ticonderoga on April 16, 1914, the beloved son of the late Jay and Elsie Porter.
Mr. Porter was a lifelong Ticonderoga resident.
He was employed by the International Paper Company of Ticonderoga as head machinist for 42 years until his retirement and was a member of the company's Quarter Century Club.
He was also the owner and operator of Porter's Machine Works. He also owned and operated a chinchilla ranch and a mink ranch during his lifetime.
Mr. Porter was a member of the Mt. Defiance Lodge 794 and Free & Accepted Masons of Ticonderoga.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Eleanor (Elliott) Porter; and by his second wife, Mame (Rand) Porter.
Relatives and friends may call Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St. in Ticonderoga.
A graveside service will take place Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the Valley View Cemetery of Ticonderoga.
