Walter de Bernham lived part of his life in Bernham, Norfolk and part in Sotherton, Suffolk. The arms of de Bernham and those of several descendants of Sir Walter are identical.
In 1309 Walter de Bernham presented to St Mary's Church, Hellesdon (Haylesdon), his son Peter, to be instituted rector. In 1311 he presented Robert de Bernham as clerk and in 1314 Thomas de Bocking, ditto.
Thomas de Docking settled this lordship (Haylesdon) on Walter de Bernham and Maud his wife, and in the 16th of that King (8 July 1322-7 July 1323), it was settled on the said Walter and Maud for life; remainder to Hugh, son of Walter and Isabel his wife, daughter of Gyles de Wachesham and their heirs, and Hugh was lord in the 6th of Edward III (25 January 1332-24 January 1333).
