Notes for Arthur Joseph LABOSSIERE


Arthur Joseph Labossiere was born at Troy, NY on Feb. 21, 1883. His birth record has not been found, but this is given on his World War I draft registration. He was second child of three and the only known son of William Labossière and Marie Julie Melina Mousseau. A younger sibling died before 1900 and is only known from the 1900 and 1910 US censuses.
1900 US Census New York Albany Green Island ED 94 Sheet B22 Lines 92-94: William Labossiere, 42; name corrupted into Labisher; wife, Ann, 37; son, Archie, 18. Census date: June 13, 1900. Mother has had 2 children and 1 has died. William is working in a shirt factory as a shirt ironer.
Arthur Labossiere married Elizabeth Barnum at Troy, NY on Nov. 17, 1901. She is a daughter of Ashbell Barnum and Sara Ann Cowen. Arthur Labossiere and Elizabeth Barnum had one known child, a daughter, Edith Mary.
1910 US Census New York Albany Green Island Ward 3 ED 0137 Sheet 18B Lines 67-69: Arthur Laboshire (Labossiere), 27; Libbie Laboshire (Elizabeth Barnum), 27; daughter: Edith Labossiere, 8. Census Date: May 12, 1910.
By Sept. 1918, Arthur Labossiere had separated from Elizabeth Barnum and he had moved to Toldeo, Ohio. That month he registered for the military draft for World War I and he gave his mother as a next of kin. No record has been found that he served.
Arthur Labossiere still reports being married in the 1920 US census. 1920 US Census Ohio Lucas Toldeo Ward 1 ED 24 Sheet 4A Line 20: Arthur Labossiere, 35 roomer, married, laborer auto factory. Census Date: Jan. 3, 1920.
Arthur Labossiere married Mary Gertrude Doyle nee Donohue at Detroit, MI on Aug. 24, 1925. She is a daughter of Dennis Donohue and Catherine and was previously married to Michael Doyle.
1930 US Census Ohio Lucas Toldeo ED 17 Sheet 7A Lines 22-23: Arthur J. Labossiere, 46; Mary Labossiere (Donohue), 46. Census Date: April 4, 1930.
He passed away in 1955.
