'''STRANGE STORY.'''
'''BIGAMIST'S DEFENCE.'''
'''WIFE'S PERMISSION.'''
'''ROCKHAMPTON, February 10.'''A strange story was told in the Supreme Court today when Frederick William Barnham (46) pleaded guilty, before his Honour Mr. Justice Brennan, to a charge of bigamy. Barnham admitted that before he got married a second time he wrote to his wife and told her of the step he proposed to take. His wife, he said, replied: "You can get married. You are not troubling me the least bit. You are just a man.
God help the woman who marries you." Barnham said he was of the opinion that if his first wife agreed to his getting married again after being separated for more than seven years it would be all right.
His Honour told Barnham that he was under a misapprehension in this regard, and advised him to get a divorce and remarry this woman.
"Unfortunately I have to convict you," concluded his Honour.STRANGE STORY. (1931, February 11). The Brisbane Courier (Qld. : 1864 - 1933), p. 15. Retrieved July 4, 2021, from http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article21668548
