Notes for Samuel Brown CHILDS


Samuel B. Childs was born in Hadley, Saratoga County, New York in 1815, the son of Alexander and Betsey Childs. He married Melinda Church in Hadley in 1846 and the couple moved to Jasper, Steuben County, New York where Childs farmed. By 1860 the couple and their nine children lived in Wrightstown (Wisconsin) for another twenty years after the war. Samuel Childs enlisted in the 8th Independent Battery of the Wisconsin Light Artillery Regiment in Menasha on February 1, 1862, and was discharged six months later on August 27, 1862 for a physical disability. Childs and his family lived in Wrightstown for another twenty years after the war. Samuel Childs died on April 24, 1886 and is buried in the South Lawrence Cemetery.
