Moses was born March 11, 1657, married Lydia Greenleaf Coffin, who was born April 22, 1662, and had six children: John, Tristram, Sarah, Mary, Elizabeth and Moses. Moses served in King Philip's War, an Indian uprising in 1675 led by a son of Massosoit who took the name of Philip.
He died of smallpox on March 8, 1691 and "according to the practice of that time, was kept during his illness in a room so heated that one's hand could not rest of the walls without discomfort. It is the tradition that he caught the disease while passing a house where infected clothing was exposed from the windows, and that his physician, while in a state of intoxication, administered a prescription which hastened, if it did not cause, his death."
Moses left a considerable estate. His wife married second on March 18, 1695, John Pike by whom she had five daughters and possibly a son. She died August 7, 1757 at the age of ninety five.
