Their marriage took place at the Methodist Episcopal Church in Sandburgh. The witnesses were: H. W. Barnum (brother of the groom) and Carrie Hoyt. Sandburgh has been changed to a different name since. This information is from Lillian Lee Stratton Platt, who also stated that Herbert Eugene died at Bridgeville, Town of Thompson, Sullivan Co., NY. Diane Rousseau provides the date of 27 Nov 1881, taken from the Neal Family Bible.
From the Middletown (NY) Times Herald, Thursday, December 29, 1932: Bridgeville Couple Observe Anniversary. Monticello--Mr. And Mrs. Eugene Barnum of Bridgeville celebrated Tuesday their fifty-first wedding anniversary. The couple were married at Thompsonville. Mrs. Barnum was a pupil in the school of which her husband was principal. Mr. Barnum, who is seventy-six, is a staunch Republican and served as Justice of the Peace in his township for five consecutive terms, a record in Sullivan County. The couple have two children, Weston G. Barnum, employed at the Middletown Postoffice, and Leon Barnum of Bridgeville. There are also six grandchildren, Barbara, Muriel, Leon, Louise, Marjory and Josephine Barnum.
