Notes for William FEAKE/Mary WETHERELL

They were married at Saint Mary Woolnoth. Saint Mary Woolnoth is located at the corner of Lombard Street and King William Street, London. The first church to stand there was established on the site of a Roman temple to Concord by a Saxon noble called Woolnoth. Over the centuries the church was rebuilt many times and the present Baroque church dates from 1716 - 27. The small, building is one of the finest churches created by Nicholas Hawksmoor, who was Sir Christopher Wren's pupil. The building is powerful and has a small but beautifully proportioned interior, which seems larger on the inside, based on the Egyptian Hall of Vitruvius. Edward Lloyd, in whose coffee shop the insurance company Lloyds of London was founded, was buried at Saint Mary Woolnoth in 1713.
