Notes for Juan TAFOYA JAGUADA/María DURáN
Dispensation of Marriage dated 17 February 1708 in Santa Fé, Nueva Extremadura, Nueva España: Juan de Tafoya Altamirano widowed of Josefa Pacheco son of Juan de Tafoya Altamirano de Estrada and Felipa Jaguada de Ulloa, natives of Talpujagua with doña Maria Durán y Cháves, dau. of don Fernando Durán y Cháves and doña Lucia Hurtado. The same dispensation provides the following information: Jose de Quintana, notary; Miguel de la Vega y Coca (22) español, witness. An impediment was brought by Clara de Cháves, wife of Juan de la Mora Pineda, and publicly known as the bastard dau. of Capt. don Fernado Durán y Cháves. She claimed that she had relations with the groom, which fact was known to his brother, Cristóbal Tafoya and to María de Herrera. Clara's mother (not named) testified that don Fernado impregnated her as a girl. The groom denied Clara's charges, as witnessed by Juan Varela (32).
