Family lore suggests the possibility that Anna Mary may have been sent to the US from Bohemia for an arranged marriage and that she was not well liked by her stepmother. Whether or not that was the case, her first marriage did not long survive the early death of the daughter she had with Henry Kropp and within a few years she was married to John Henry Burnham, with whom she had five children.
