From an unidentified contemporary newspaper, October 1938: Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Barnum are the proud parents of a son, Richard Lee, seven pounds, five ounces, born Friday, October 21. Mrs. Barnum and the young son are doing nicely at the Salem General hospital. Mr. Barnum arrived from San Francisco last Saturday and will have to return to his duties at the Naval Radio station at Mare Island, Cal. Sunday. Mrs. Barnum is the daughter of Mrs. Sophia Krieg and a sister of Mrs. Elsie Bolt and Francis Krieg.
