See Also: Abel, son of Elijah Barnum, who has nearly identical dates. The 1850 US Census for Danbury, Connecticut, shows an Abel Barnum, farmer, 85 years of age, with an estate valued at $6,000. That notation may refer to either this Abel or to Abel son of Elijah.

The record is further confused by the following information from Bethel, Connecticut. Birth: Jan. 24, 1765; Death: Mar. 24, 1851. "In Memory of Abel Barnum who died Mar. 24. 1851 aged 85 years. & 10 mos." Burial: Congregational Church Cemetery, Bethel, Fairfield County, Connecticut, USA. Plot: R1-66.
