A touching photo that captured a helmeted white police officer hugging a teary-eyed 12-year-old African-American boy at a Ferguson shooting protest in Oregon went viral on social media. More than 150,000 Facebook users shared the image hours after The Oregonian newspaper posted it on its website. Portland police Sgt. Bret Barnum and Devonte Hart, 12, hugged at a rally in Portland, Oregon, where people had gathered in support of the protests in Ferguson, Missouri. The shooting of Michael Brown occurred August 9, 2014, in Ferguson, a suburb of Saint Louis. Brown, an 18-year-old black man, was fatally shot by Darren Wilson, 28, a white police officer of the Ferguson Police Department.
